The condition of urban growth in the cities of emerging economies of the Global South poses new and decisive challenges for the overall development of these regions. In this sense, a number of trends are occurring in parallel, having as a common vector the expansion of urban systems and a greater atomisation of these developments. Structural and historical aspects in the growth of these cities persist, such as problems of mobility, segregation, informal growth of the peripheries, etc.; while new growth dynamics emerge due to changes in economic structures, and the dynamics that globalisation processes drive. Public policies should aim at the organisation and balanced growth of these urban systems, eliminating the negative externalities of urbanisation processes.
Papers are invited on topics related, but not limited, to:
- Governance, urban development and urban segregation
- Risk management policies
- Social construction of urban space
- Planning and managing the development of small towns and rural areas
