Helena Barbosa, PhD, is a Professor at the the University of Aveiro Department of Communication and Art of. She is currently the vice-director of ID+ Research Institute in Design, Media and Culture. In this research institute she was the founder and still coordinates the research group THEME: Theory and Memory, since 2018. She is vice-director of the Doctoral Program in Design at the University of Aveiro. She has written extensively, contributing with articles in scientific journals, published several books, and has been invited to give lectures at international conferences. She is member of the editorial board of journals, such as The Design Journal and PAD: Pages on Art and Design, and associate editor of the Journal of Visual Political Communication. Her interests are related with design theory, Portuguese design history, design studies, visual and material culture, cultural heritage, patrimony, museology, museography, illustration and art.
